The Emergence of Simplified Business Operations Platforms (S-BOP)

Process management continues to be a focal point for performance improvement, agility and cost reduction within many IT organisations (ITO). Hydrasight notes that an emerging class of process technology has the potential to expand process support directly into the hands of business users. We refer to this technology as simplified business operations platform (S-BOP).

Hydrasight notes that S-BOP offers business users the ability to author, deploy, change and manage their own human-centric processes and applications with some specific constraints. Moreover, S-BOP allows users to manage their own process technology with little or no direct involvement from the IT organisation (ITO). Hydrasight research suggests that S-BOP may fulfil an unmet need in organisations for ‘good enough’ business process management/automation.

This premium report explores:

  • S-BOP Benefits
  • S-BOP characteristics
  • The role of S-BOP in the application domain
  • Risks and barriers to adoption of S-BOP
  • Vendors and S-BOP products

Note: this report will be issued on or before April 30, 2009.

Business and IT outlook (Australia, 2009)

Business and IT remain inextricably linked. By end 2008, in a period of increasing economic turbulence, the perceived ability of the IT organisation to deliver business solutions appears to have become more positive. While the economic outlook of business leaders appears gloomy through at least 2010, Hydrasight research also shows that IT will continue to play a significant role in business. Whether IT is expected to, or is able to, deliver value to the top-line of the business will vary by industry and company. However, our research suggests that most Australian organisations at least intend to continue investing in IT during 2009 in order to achieve greater organisational efficiencies.

This premium report explores:

  • The economic outlook for 2009
  • The impact on IT in 2009 and beyond
  • The continued evolution of IT

In total, responses from 94 Australian organisations are included in this premium report report. 46% of respondents were from IT organisations/departments. 53% of respondents were business executives—primary CFO and COO.

IT service management (ITSM) 2007

This premium report provides a summary of the results from respondents to Hydrasight's 2007 survey on IT service management (ITSM). It illustrates that the challenges and complexity of IT service delivery and management continue to increase, even within mature IT markets such as Australia and New Zealand.

Hydrasight believes a number of  service management issues identified in this report will continue to confront IT organisations, within the enterprise, through at least 2010. Moreover, the findings suggest that improved performance management disciplines will be required and ultimately become pivotal to addressing the business requirements to reduce IT operational expenditure.

  • Current levels of SOA production deployment in Australia and New Zealand
  • Leading current and future vendors of SOA technology in Australia and New Zealand
