Mr John Brand
(Research Director)
Mr Brand has 20 years experience in IT and is widely regarded as one of the top Internet and IT industry analysts in Asia Pacific.
Prior to founding Hydrasight in 2005, John spent five years as a senior vice president and industry analyst with global IT research firm, META Group. He was a lead analyst and subject matter expert in the areas of enterprise content management, enterprise collaboration, digital asset management, and digital rights management. John also assumed the role of global lead analyst for the financial services and media and entertainment industries. He has advised and coached a range of Global 2000 organisations as diverse as the Australian and Singapore Departments of Defence, Centrelink, BHP Billiton, Shell, Bank Negara Malaysia, Johnson and Johnson, Coles Myer, Barclays Bank, McGraw Hill, McKinsey, OUB Bank, Proctor and Gamble, Cadbury Schweppes, Warner Music Group and Singapore Health.
John has developed unique positions and published innovative research in the areas of: enterprise content management, case management, document and records management, portals, business-to-business e-commerce, business-to-consumer e-commerce, online publishing, personalisation, workflow, business intelligence (focusing on information management maturity), content intelligence, and process integration. He is regularly invited to speak at industry events and is often quoted in the press around the globe.
John previously spent four years as Online Services Manager at leading Australian stockbroking firm, J B Were & Son, as well as four years with new media marketing firm, Empire Ridge, recognised by BRW as Australia's third fastest growing privately owned company in 1995 and fourth in 1996.
Mr Vu Long Tran
(Research Analyst)
Vu Long Tran has nearly four years IT industry experience within the publishing/media, government, and retail verticals and has a strong interest in IT ethics, privacy and green IT.
Mr Tran is currently Research Analyst for Hydrasight’s Australia/New Zealand Research and IT Services team. In this capacity, Vu Long specialises in tracking both the Australia/New Zealand and IT products and services markets. He focuses on market developments, company profiling, vendor strategy, product positioning, end-user requirements, and customer satisfaction.
Prior to joining Hydrasight, Vu Long worked closely with green IT research firm, Connection Research to create a global directory of carbon emissions management software and associated green IT services. Vu Long also spent almost two years developing analytical and client service skills by working in a dual role as both an IT auditor and IT adviser with Chartered Accounting firm, Grant Thornton. His projects there included facilitating the development of business continuity plans (BCPs) and disaster recovery plans (DRPs) for a Government agency and a large Australian retail organisation.
Prior to this he gained experience in the publishing industry by working a Business Analyst and IT Help Desk Specialist for major travel guide publisher, Lonely Planet, and leading Melbourne newspaper, The Age. He was responsible for a number of major projects including the facilitating the development of the interactive Lonely Planet Guides as featured on Qantas' A380 aircraft as well as assisting with IT support during key sporting events including the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Vu Long is the co-author of the Handbook of Research on Green ICT (expected for release late 2010) and has published articles in the Information Age on behalf of the Australian Computer Society's (ACS) special interest groups such as the ACS IT Ethics committee. Vu Long has also assisted in the development of Green IT Training Programs offered by Connection Research and EXCOM Education. These training programs are designed to deliver an industry accredited syllabus on a range of Green IT and related issues within Australia and New Zealand.
Vu Long earned a scholarship from Swinburne University, Melbourne where he received a degree in Information Technology. He is currently undertaking his post-graduate through the ACS’s Computer Professional Education Program.

Tim has nearly 15 years diverse industry experience, with a strong focus on the strategic use of information technology.
Tim is the founder of Web Strategy Resources, a research and consulting company that assists growing enterprises to gain a competitive edge through the efficient use of Internet technology. Prior to establishing Web Strategy Resources, Tim worked as a business and marketing analyst with a leading Australian stockbroking firm (J B Were & Son), as a Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Business School, and as a management consultant and project engineer.
Tim is the author or co-author of several books, including the E-Commerce Handbook (2000), the Australian eBusiness Guide (2001 and 2002), and Exploiting the Internet: a practical guide for growing enterprises (2004). Tim also developed and delivered the MBA course, eBusiness Implementation (2001 to 2004), for Chifley Business School. In addition, Tim is regularly invited to deliver presentations on the impact of Internet technologies on the small and medium-sized business (SMB) sector.
Tim holds the degrees of Master of Engineering Science and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from the University of Melbourne.
